My Wife Mary Ann and I went down to Marathon to scope out a new vacation area. We checked in Monday in our Vacation Club Time Share and the first thing we went in search of was a Charter Boat.
Low and behold directly behind the resorts Tiki Bar was a small dock with about 4 Charter Services. One fellow was really working his business hard. So,we elected him as our charter and was lucky enough to bump into another couple(owners) who were looking to get out. So we decided to split the charter.
Only problem was weather conditions. There was only a two day window, and the better of the days was Thursday, which was booked. So Wednesday it was do or die!
Captain Danny, an excellant Captain, and with a great personalty took us into the "Back Country" of the Key's, where he could find some calm waters to fish in.
We were very astonished at the amount of life in the waters of the Gulf. Fish swam right to the chum bag (small ones). We caught a variety of fish and were pleased with the amount considering the windy conditions. Of course, you should have seen the one that got away. Captain Danny beleives I hooked into a nice Cobia, but he wrapped around a crab pot buoy rope and broke off before we could let back enough anchor rode to drift back and free the fishing line to continue the battle.
Great time and we will be going back!
